Ibis's founder, Scot Nicol, is a bit of an oenophile and
recently he dug out a wine cellar under his Sonoma County home.
Beneath a boulder that he split with the guidance of a YouTube
video, Scot discovered a tattered box sealed with a label bearing
the address of his old Mendocino workshop.
Scot hadn't the faintest memory of how the box came to be here,
or what might be inside. That in itself wasn't surprising. The
early 80's in Mendocino, CA, were a time of experimental living,
and the side effects of the most successful experiments erased any
memory of them ever happening. What he did know was what was inside
certainly hadn't been touched since the days when Ibis was first
Breaking the seal, he opened the lid of the box to discover a
cellophane wrapped bundle, clouded with age, but unmolested by the

the world of mountain bikes, Scot was an apostle of the giants of
the road – Merckx, Hinault, Thevenet. Like any true devotee of the

So as the proprietor of a newly minted bicycle company, Scot
decided that Ibis needed a kit the equal of the great teams of that
day - Gitane, Molteni, Peugeot, and he commissioned the production
of the finest merino wool jerseys to be had with elegant cable
stitch embroidered Ibis logo. However, the jerseys were never
delivered. Or were they?
There in this long lost bundle Scot found underneath his house
(and 95 miles from south of Mendocino) he laid his eyes upon the
Ibis jerseys he ordered some 33 years ago for the first time.
Somehow through the fog of all that fine Northern California living
the jerseys he never saw, never thought he'd see had appeared, and
they were beautiful - classic but modern, stylish but
